A laser session generally lasts about 30-90 minutes during which the patient is given a general anesthetic or a local anesthetic. This is just to avoid any type of pain to the patient during the surgery. The pain, even if felt, is negligible and not more than what you would feel in a pinch.
Acne laser surgery has a very good customer feedback and can help reduce scarring due to acne along with completely eliminating acne. But remember one very vital point; this surgery would eradicate the scars and existing acne only. You would have to continue the treatment of the cause of acne to avoid eruptions of new acne.
During the surgery, the surgeon sends laser beams to the innermost layers of the skin to completely clear the pores, destroy the bacteria and control the sebum secreting glands. The outer layer of the skin is removed and the next layer that is young and smooth is exposed after the surgery.
Acne laser surgery can be of various types and the type of surgery required would be chosen by the surgeon depending on your skin condition. The 'Blue light therapy' targets on destroying the overactive oil secreting gland to prevent sebum secretion and curb acne. 'Acne scar laser treatments' focus primarily on the scars left behind by acne. They smooth the skin texture and give you a natural clear skin. It targets the bacteria that causes skin inflammation and helps in improving the skin texture.
The recovery time may differ from one person to another. You may have some post-operative pain, redness and inflammation too, but it would subside in a few days. It is generally noticed that people with darker hair and skin recuperate faster than people with lighter skin and lighter hair. Post the surgery, you need to provide your skin complete protection from the sun. A good protection would help stretch the results of the acne laser surgery for many years.
