This product works ok for the price, but you have to have a lot of patient, but that's the problem with that method of electrolysis anyway. There's two kinds, this type and the type where you don't need moisture to operate the machine. I have gone to a professional that uses this method and she told me right of the bat that they method just generally takes more time. That being said it works pretty good, machines get rid of the hair and if you don't have my type of hair it doesn't grow for a while. My biggest problem were to little needles that it came with, constantly bends and you have to replace them, but if you don't mind that than you are in business.

I bought this and it works to its desired level.

Pros: It saves you about $200 an hour from seeing an actual electrolysis technician. It is easy, quick (on a per-hair basis),convenient, and a pretty fast learning curve.

Cons: In the same way that it is quick on a per-hair basis, it takes forever to do a whole section of ones body. 45 minutes barely finished a 1 x 1 patch. Second, the burns, the chances of getting burnt are high in the beginning. Third, the amount of time it takes to clear an area!

Other thoughts: Make sure you are following the instructions and moistening your fingers prior to use, and keeping them moist. You know the hair is done when you tweeze it and it slides right out and you don't feel a thing. Something else to bear in mind, make sure the probe is entering the follicle, you do not slide it against the hair, it has got to slide right into the follicle. Push it against the base of the hair, when it has penetrated the follicle two things should happen 1) the machine will emit a high-pitched tone, and 2)You will feel a tingle of varying intensity based upon the power setting you have chosen. I noticed that a whole bunch of white fluid bubbled out of the follicle when I did it, but it washes away. The thing is, is that it takes time and patience. Ultimately I have decided to switch to a campaign of body waxing, simply because it is faster, but the electrolysis is still on standby for those few-rogue hairs.

I love this product. It works so well. Yes it is tedious, and there is a little discomfort, but it's no more painful than plucking and you don't have to shave ever again (which I used to do every other day). It's the best thing and I don't know how I lived without it.

I received the home electrolysis almost three weeks ago and used it immediately. I guess I had the setting set to high and I burned the skin slightly and formed a few scabs where the skin had been pierced. I have had similary experiences at the salon as well so it was nothing new, but I have noticed no hair regrowth as of yet and its been almost three weeks so I am very pleased with the product.

The main thing to know about doing at home electrolysis is to start out on a low setting. Most people will scar for long periods of time if you go over a 5. I keep mine set to a 3 or 4 and I have super thick hairs. I made the mistake of starting out on an a 7 and 8 in some areas and am still healing 6 months later, luckily it was an area that can be hidden by clothing. Also, under no circumstance should you go over a 4 on the face, usually stay between a 2 and 3 for the face.

Other tips are to buy lots of extra stylet tips. If the tip bends its no good and you'll need another one.

Replace the battery often. The device is most effective with a well charged battery.

Sometimes if the hair is really thick you'll have to hold the stylet tip in for up to 1 minute. Turning the stylet tip and moving it up and down can help.

You might need to do several treatments if the hair is really thick, so don't feel discouraged.

It took me a while to get used to using the product but I'm starting to get the hang of it and it is working. You just need to have patients and a lot of time.

And last but not least, it really doesn't hurt. It might sting slightly but it's not painful.

Too short a time to talk about long term results but can feel the difference already. Easy to use and can zap for 5 minutes and move on to other things in life.
Smaller than it shows in the pictures . The contrast between dark hair and light skin is very important but they give a dye to fake the laser out and kill follicle's .
Love it and will review again in a couple months. Because of hair growth cycles should take 8 months to get through all the hair.

I was SO excited to get this item. It comes with the laser "pen", some carbon dye to tinge the hair darker, and a strip of carbon paper. If you zap the carbon paper with the unit, it burns a little - I guess to demonstrate the laser works. Except it doesn't, at least on my skin. I am pale, pale, pale with very dark hair (gotta love the black Irish genes). Anyway, I tried this on individual hair on my arms, freckles, spider veins, wrinkles, everything I could think to zap. And sadly, I got no results at all. Not even the individual hairs that were zapped dropped out.

The light is extremely thin so you really can only treat one hair at a time.

You can't keep the laser button pressed for longer than few seconds and the button is really uncomfortable so you'll develop a dent in your clicking finger pretty fast.

I should have known this would be too good to be true but I wanted to believe! Buyer Beware.

My problem is that my strands of hair itself have gotten thinner and thinner. I'm using 5% minoxidyl foam and specific vitamins and other methods as well but so far nothing. I've been using the X5 for only a few weeks so it's too soon to tell, but I had the laser comb a few years ago and hated it. It was hard to use and annoying, while this is a joy. What a difference! Hey, if all it does is keep my hair from getting any worse, I'll take it. Love the timer and the recharging station and the way it works. Great product. Oh, and the laser comb cost $500.00. Big difference!

I bought it and was able to only turn it on the first time. Then it would not power on. Therefore, I doubt how it could work to help on increasing your hair.

I was motivated to buy my X5 Hair Laser because I was losing a lot of hair in the last winter. I had heard about the laser technology in hair treatment before I bought my one. A dermatologist suggest me the laser treatmeny. I bought it in January/2010 and in February I already noted the reduction in my hair fall.

I can not say that it will work for everyone but at least it worked in my problem because different reasons cause hair's fall. I would like to emphasize that I have been taking some vitamins and I use minoxidil in my hair. I believe that the combination of X5 + vitamins + minoxidil is responsible for the success of my hair regrowth treatment.
