Infrared Therapy Benefits

Infrared light therapy as a medical technique is not new - it's been in use for preventative and therapeutic treatments, mainly for muscular injuries, since the 1990s. Its applications for both veterinary and human conditions have been the subject of lots of research and experimentation, so we can be confident that it can really work.

There has been some contractor research completed by NASA for using light therapy in space for pain management. It was tough to find substantiated data on the results of those studies. You do get the impression by reading the periphery of the NASA studies that light therapy is used in space on humans with success.

Infrared light therapy is a safe and effective tool in your equine veterinary equipment. It's ideal for treating injuries to large muscle areas like the neck and back, and it has a preventative role to play too. Plus, most infrared equipment can be used to treat other injuries and conditions in other parts of the horse.

The Visible Infrared Light is a system that is acknowledged as being capable of reaching about eight to 10mm into the human skin surface, incredibly good for many types of surface wounds, cuts, scars, triggers, treating infections, and also acupuncture points. On the other hand, the Invisible Infrared Light can reach a depth of about 30 to 40 mm, an area that involves bones, deep muscles, and joints.

Infrared technology has been proven to help increase the overall circulation and movement of blood throughout the body. This makes it an ideal treatment for people who have soft tissue injuries. Injuries like sprains and torn ligaments respond very well to this treatment therapy.

Many people have successfully recovered from high blood pressure levels by using this type of lighting technology. Now, you can too! There are many different medical facilities that offer infrared light therapy boxes. If you cannot find one near you, you may be pleased to know that you can now purchase your own therapy boxes to use at home! If you want to lower your high blood pressure, infrared light therapy is a safe and effective means of doing so!

Infrared therapy's benefits for treating chronic equine conditions like arthritis are two-fold. Just as with preventative applications, the increased circulation deep within the muscles - much deeper than you can get with topical ligaments - aids healing. The infrared rays can penetrate much further into soft tissues and muscles than any surface preparations, and you don't run the risk of skin irritation.

There are several methods for administering Infrared Light Therapy depending on what you are targeting. For pain relief, there are several designs of adjustable wands and guns that focus light on the affected areas. For acne, there are several different designs, the most common being one that looks like an open book which you put the face or affected area near the light sources for a specified period of time on a regular basis.

Best of all, there is some evidence that infrared therapy actually has an analgesic effect too. The metabolic stimulation also increases neurological responses. In pain management, this means that infrared increases the release of endorphins, helping your horse to feel better too.

Seeking Therapy and Treatment for an Acne Attack

Acne is one of the curses of teenaged existence. Even as a child begins the process of becoming an adult, acne erupts and starts playing the role of a party pooper. An acne problem can play havoc with a person's confidence. Its ability to shatter a person's self-esteem is a hundred times stronger during the impressionable adolescent years. Moreover, we are living in a world where the image reigns supreme. Good looks have always been given preference. Today, there is far greater stress on looking good. A person must present a great image at all times. How does one do that with a face full of acne?

Dealing with acne is not at all easy. However, if one was to greatly simplify matters, it would all boil down to personal hygiene. Washing one's face thoroughly is the first step to getting rid of acne. Pollution is in the air no matter where we may go. This problem gets intensified in bustling cities. The dust and grime that come and settle on our faces usually enter the pores to form acne and other skin problems. If one has a naturally oily skin, this problem is greatly aggravated. The need remains to find a cleanser to remove all the dirt and leave the skin squeaky clean.

Prevention is always better than cure. If one is able to avoid the attack of acne, there would be nothing like it. However, we rarely recognize the dangers until they are upon us. Most of us begin our battles with acne only after we see them erupting on our skin. Acne marks usually last for a long time, if not forever. Is it any wonder that our markets are filled with acne products of all kinds? From acne creams and zit eliminators to face washes for every skin type -- there really are many acne treatment options available to modern-day victims of acne.

Acne therapy begins and ends with proper skin care. Use natural remedies or over-the-counter products. If your acne problem is severe, consult a dermatologist. (S)he would be your best guide to acne treatment. Therapy for acne is easily available to all those who seek it. If the simpler solutions to getting rid of acne do not seem to work, there are other options for you. You could try surgery to eliminate your acne problem and its scars. Laser rays and light and color therapy are also used in this regard. And these are only a few of the multiple available options.

Acne Therapy

Acne therapy deals with the treatment of the disease. Blue light therapy involves exposing the affected area to a low-intensity blue light source that is used to kill bacteria that are responsible for the disease. Some side effects of this type of treatment include temporary redness and dryness in the treated area. There is a newer light therapy that combines blue and red light. This newer therapy is more effective than blue light alone.

There is also the pulsed and heat energy therapy. When these two therapies are combined, they can kill bacteria as well as shrink the sebaceous glands and thus decrease sebum production. A side effect for this type of acne therapy is redness in the treated area.

Laser treatment involves laser resurfacing and fractional laser therapy. Laser resurfacing is form of laser acne treatment that involves the use of a laser on the scarred part to burn off the top layers of the skin. Removal of the top skin triggers the inner layers of the skin to start immediately cell and collagen reproduction in a bid to replace the missing skin.

Fractional laser therapy involves the use of a laser to penetrate the inner layers of the skin without causing any damage to the top layer of your skin. You can go for this procedure when you have a protruding or a bumpy scar. Burning off the underlying layers of the skin helps to smoothen and make level the scarred area with the rest of your skin. This type of acne therapy is more effective than laser resurfacing. It is however more costly and lasts longer as compared to conventional laser resurfacing.

Acne Therapy - The Latest Scientific Breakthroughs For Acne Treatment

Therapy is something that has to go with the treatment or rehabilitation of any physical, mental or behavioral problems encountered by any individual. By acne therapy, we mean, healing, curing and providing remedies from the source.

There are plenty of new acne therapies introduced in the medical industry. They provide state-of-the-art breakthroughs that would surely help you out with your acne problem right down from its roots. The concepts behind these therapies are simple, that is to control oil production in the body and to clear other residues that have accumulated within the pores.

Blue Light Therapy

This blue light procedure helps you get rid of your acne by eliminating the bacteria causing acne in your skin. There are two basic procedures to this therapy, namely:

Pre-treatment. Wash your face or any affected area and allow the surface to dry. After which, you are advised to sit at a distance comfortable from the bulb, about two to three feet away. Treatment proper. You are not about to set a distance nearer to the bulb, but do not do it closer than two feet. The blue light should be used 15 minutes on a daily basis. The purpose of the light is to heal the skin at the same time revive it. After you have seen results of using the system, you may decrease the treatment to an every other day basis.

Light or laser therapy

This is one of the most popular acne therapies and has been in existence for quite some time now. The procedure guarantees reduction and removal of both acne and the scars associated with it. Some other things that make the therapy successful are:

Penetration of deep layers. The light from the laser can help break through the dermis of the skin by passing through the epidermis. This procedure does not damage the outer lining. Shrinking of the oil glands. The procedure helps cure acne and other related problems by reducing the size of the sebaceous glands. Just like the blue light therapy, it kills the P. acnes, the primary bacteria known to cause acne. Improves the skin texture. By undergoing the laser therapy, you are guaranteed to rejuvenate your skin and get the youthful glow you want.

Microdermabrasion

This treatment is known to reduce facial line and wrinkles and to this day has also been used for acne treatment. The procedure involves placing of crystals to exfoliate the face of the patient. The treatment is done using a brush to sweep off the crystals. This procedure, compared to blue light therapy which can be done home, should be done by experts in order to avoid side effects.

The introduction of medicinal breakthroughs in the market helped eliminate the acne problem. The acne therapies have begun gaining recognition for themselves, thus, providing good outcome for those who use them.

Acne Treatment - 4 Types of Light and Laser Therapy Treatments Are Discussed

There is a variety of treatment choices available in the market today. The use of laser and light therapy has been popular nowadays. The efficacy of these treatments is still in question because the technology is still young. They have gained preference to people who find it difficult to periodically apply creams on faces to treat acne since conventional acne treatments require time and effort in the application on the affected areas. That is why people have opted to find ways in treating acne that will not cost much of their time and effort. This is where light and laser therapy comes to the picture.

1. Blue-Light

Blue light is the most common light therapy for acne. It has high intensity and narrow bands. It targets to kill 'Propionibacterium Acnes' or the bacteria associated with acne. This is usually the last resort of people in treating their acne. Before, ultraviolet (UV) light was used to treat acne. However, this kind of light was shown to damage the skin and was stopped. Blue light therapy is given in increments. However, there are some side effects like temporary color changes, dryness and inflammation. Many patients that were treated using blue light have shown remarkable improvement.

Blue light is promising because it does not pose grave side effects on the treated skin. Not like the other treatments, blue light does not harm the surrounding tissues.

2. Pulsed Light and Heat Energy (LHE)

Pulses of green light and heat are used to combat acne by killing 'Propionibacterium Acnes' and reducing the size of sebaceous glands to minimize sebum production. This procedure will inhibit the possibility of clogging pores and inviting more bacteria to the site of infection. This therapy hits two birds with one stone since the two causes of acne are targeted.

3. Light and 5 - Aminolevulinic Acid (ALA)

This therapy involves two steps. Initially, the acne is treated with a solution of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA). ALA will make the acne more sensitive to light. Usually, the acne is treated with ALA for short period of time - from 15 - 60 minutes. The time varies on the degree of acne development. After this procedure, the ALA is removed and light is used to expose the acne. The increased sensitivity of the acne to light dries up the acne. Red or blue light is effective but some side-effects have shown. These include swollen follicles resembling acne and mild darkening of the area. Another disadvantage of light therapy is that it promotes skin aging and makes it more vulnerable to skin cancers. However, more research is done on this.

4. Laser Treatments

Laser treatments include 'Diode Laser Treatment' and 'Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment'. There have been studies on the use of these kinds of laser treatments and have shown positive improvement. However, some side effects include mild reddening and swelling of the surrounding tissue makes up for some real concern.

The use of these treatments has not yet been truly established. More research about them should be encouraged to settle the issues of side effects which are either short term or long term. Although these treatments have shown to be more effective on adults, information on the side effects and the best kind of treatment should be evaluated before undergoing laser therapy.

Blue Light Acne Therapy - Understanding the Basics

Blue Light Acne Therapy – Understanding the Basics

A BRIEF OVERVIEW

What are the Causes of Acne?

There are Four factors shown to cause acne including:
•    Hyperactive oil glands: Hyperactive oil glands occur in periods of stress and puberty due to hormonal changes causing the pores to be enlarged. Not only common for young people these days.  Adults can have acne at some points of their lives. This is mainly associated with stress.

•    Skin pore blockage: The pores are blocked resulting to trapping of the oils in the skin pores.

•    Normal flora of the skin activities: Oils are trapped under the skin and bacteria tends to grow there. As the bacteria releases chemicals, it alters the oil, which makes it even more irritating and results to inflammation of the skin.

•    Inflammation: Inflammation is produced when the body is trying to get rid of a foreign substance or is fighting off infection. In the case of acne, the body is trying to get rid of the irritating compounds that the normal bacteria are releasing.

The Treatment of Acne

Blue light therapy has gained in popularity for treating acne.

There are benefits from getting the Blue light therapy. It includes the following:
•    Painless
•    Less time for procedure
•    No recovery time required

•    Effective in inflammatory acne

Blue Light Therapy is not a cure, instead, it is a way to significantly improve acne breakouts. Improve acne in just few sessions with Blue Light Therapy.

Light Therapy: a Ray of Hope for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (pmdd) Sufferers?

Light Therapy: a Ray of Hope for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (pmdd) Sufferers?

PMDD differs from PMS in that emotional symptoms in PMDD are more serious and severe than in PMS, although physical symptoms are relatively similar. PMDD can lower quality of life to an extent quite similar to that of major depression, and can also be associated with an increase in suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. Approximately 5-10% of PMS sufferers also have PMDD. It affects 3 to 8% of women in their reproductive years worldwide, and is a source of huge burden on women and their families. Women with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) are more likely to have PMDD than women in the general population.

The exact cause of PMDD is unknown; however, several theories have been proposed. One of such theories suggests that PMDD is due to the lack of serotonin (a substance found naturally in the brain and involved in sleep, depression, memory, and other neurological processes). Serotonin acts as a calming hormone; therefore when serotonin levels are low, symptoms such as pain, irritability, anger, food cravings, and anxiety are precipitated. Once serotonin levels are restored, many of these symptoms disappear.

PMDD symptoms include at least one of the following:
1. Feeling sad, worthless or hopeless.
2. Feeling tense, anxious or ‘on edge’.
3. Feeling overwhelmed or out of control.
4. Mood swings, emotional outbursts or unexplained crying.
5. Irritability, anger, or short temper.
6. Increased appetite (carbohydrate cravings)
It also includes other common symptoms of depression such as sleep problems, changes in appetite or weight, difficulty in concentrating, lack of interest in activities once enjoyed, and having suicidal thoughts. Physical symptoms are similar to that in PMS, breast tenderness, bloating, weight gain, headaches/backaches, and skin problems such as acne.

The first-line treatment for PMDD has been anti-depressants. However, these can be intolerable or result in serious adverse effects, especially in adolescents. Bright Light Therapy has been proposed as a non-pharmacological treatment, amongst other such treatments, to help increase serotonin levels and production, and may represent a safe and attractive alternative. According to Terman & Terman (2005), patients with both seasonal and nonseasonal PMDD, or milder PMS have responded favourably to 1 week of bright light therapy, in a series of clinical trials. The effect of bright light is thought to be mediated through increased production of melatonin, which subsequently boosts serotonin levels. For women seeking a non-pharmacological and safe treatment for PMDD, light therapy is a promising treatment with great prospects.

Light Therapy for Acne – Is Laser Surgery Dangerous?

Light Therapy for Acne - Is Laser Surgery Dangerous?

Light therapy for acne is a new treatment which incorporates laser surgery. If you are seeking relief from acne, the desired course of treatment depends on the severity of the condition. Acne in the mild stage can be treated with over the counter drugs and prescription medications which may control your acne, but not completely cure it. If your condition has worsened, it would be necessary to see a dermatologist, who may opt to take a more aggressive approach in your treatment, such as laser surgery.

Laser surgery is very beneficial in treating acne. The process used encompasses removing the outermost layer of the skin, allowing new skin to grow. Widely used today, it is a course of treatment which attempts to remove acne and acne scars. It has also been approved by the American Academy of Dermatology.

Although you may experience some redness in the infected area, Laser surgery can be quite effective. You can avoid any further complication by staying out of the sun for a few months. Once healed, any indication a surgical procedure was performed has dissipated. While you may be a bit leery about having Laser surgery, it is important to talk to a professional who can answer all of your questions.

Research alternative treatments as well, and then decide the best course of treatment for you. More importantly, it is incumbent upon you to seek out a second and third opinion. You never know what advice others may give or treatments they may advise would be more suited to your condition.

Laser treatments are very effective and have become the method of choice for more advanced cases of acne. There were many other forms of treatment for severe acne that have been discontinued. Thus; researchers are trying to find a cure; however, as of today none exist.

Keep in mind that although acne can be controlled, and methods to prevent it can be attained through conventional means, it is up to you to ensure that you maintain a healthy state of mind and body. While there may be treatments to alleviate the acne condition today, there may be cures tomorrow.

There are many ways in which you can help an acne condition from worsening. If you use the proper cosmetics, cosmetic use should not trigger a breakout of acne or any other skin problem. If this does occur, it is likely that you are reacting to an ingredient in the product. By using natural products, you reduce your risk of acne from occurring. Just remember that not all natural ingredients are safe, so there is still a risk; it is simply smaller one.

Light therapy for acne is the most effective way in which you can treat your acne condition using laser surgery. Check it out for yourself to determine if this is the method of treatment you wish to take.
